Road tripping with pets🐾 Are you a fan of it? Road tripping with pets🐾
Are you a fan of it?
.
This is Kona’s 2nd road trip with many more planned. After traveling with our last dog for years, here are a few tips if you’re new to it:
🐾practice good car riding near home (same riding position + rules in the car)
🐾keep comfort items close, like favorite toy, blanket, etc.
🐾leave plenty of space for him/her/them (we invested in a 2nd hand @thule car topper for extra space)
🐾ask your vet for anxiety or motion sickness meds if that’s a challenge
🐾filter search results for accommodations, making sure not to pay any extra fees (love @laquintahotels for this reason)
🐾find dog parks or rest stops with dog runs for a pup
🐾stop often to ease anxiety + for potty breaks until they’re accustomed to riding long distances
.
Ok I’m gonna stop with those...I could go on forever about this🤣
.
Have you traveled with a family pet, recently or as a kid?

Pretty sure @tripadvisor @vrbo @airbnb + @pinteres Pretty sure @tripadvisor @vrbo @airbnb + @pinterest are so confused on my travel plans. 🤪
.
I keep getting emails like, "Your guide to Fort Myers" "Dillon: know before you go" "National park road trip ideas" "Wrap up those Savannah plans"
.
Anyone else's internet search history going nuts right now?🤣✈️
.
PS- would highly recommend AGAINST a trip to Hawaii this summer, as much as that pains me to say😭
I keep hearing stories of rental car prices being $1500-$2000 a week due to high demand. 🤯(Sounds like they shipped most of them to the mainland last year.)

If you haven’t been on a screen yet, I’m referring to the CDC rec about opening up US travel.
.
It’s exciting, but still some considerations:
✈️ You may be v*ccinated, but what about the community you're traveling to? Booking an exotic trip out of the US may mean traveling to an area where the majority of people have not yet had the opportunity to get v*ccinated.
✈️What are the local city, county and state laws for masks + social distancing? Are there curfews? While these types of things may go away in the coming months, it's important to research them while making reservations.
✈️If traveling internationally (or to Hawaii or Alaska), are negative tests required to enter? These are costs that add up so don't forget to add it to your vacation budget.
.
Alright so I wanna know....where are you going next??

Earlier this week I realized that when I travel to tropical destinations, açaí bowls are my go-to for breakfast. Love them!🤤🍓🍌🫐
But why am I waiting for vacation to enjoy something that I love?
.
Sort of like how it’s easy to make time to watch the sunset on vacation but not at home. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Do you ever do that?
.
So I of course I googled how to buy açaí. 🙈 I made my first stab at a bowl this week. I definitely need to add more fresh fruit to make it feel like I’m in a tropical destination, but I think I just figured out a new breakfast fave for home!🤤
.
What do you love to do when you travel that you could start doing more at home?

🦩6 things you need to know about Flamingo Islan 🦩6 things you need to know about Flamingo Island, Aruba
.
{Save this post if it’s on your bucket list!}
.
🦩Owned by a hotel, you have to buy day passes or rent a room overnight to visit the beach. It'll cost you upwards of $250/couple so budget for it!
.
🦩Lots of destinations + tours abuse animals for profit. This is NOT the situation at Flamingo Island. They live there, wandering freely day + night.
.
🦩It's an adult-only beach, except for 1 hour in the morning. The family-friendly part of the island is called Iguana Beach 🦎
.
🦩Morning photos will have more shadows from the palm trees (see pic 2) + late afternoon pics will result in being backlit (see pic 1) mid-day or overcast skies are your best shot for vivid colors.
.
🦩Flamingos are hungry late in the day after most tourists have gotten most of their pics, headed back to the mainland or are too tipsy to care! Husband + I fed them a lot in the afternoon - they practically begged for it!
.
🦩Stay clear of the largest flamingo in the flock. He's a bit agressive + will peck at you after the food is gone. 😳
.
Full guide is up to all the things #flamingobeach - you know where to find it😉
.
Love finding gems like this? Where have you had a completely unique travel experience?

Vitamin D has never felt so good. ☀️ But serio Vitamin D has never felt so good. ☀️
But seriously though, why are we traveling now? There’s obviously “better” times to explore the world.
.
Well there’s a lot that I can say about that but the #1 thing is that traveling became more than just a hobby when I started my business back in 2018.
.
Being a digital content creator in the travel + personal finance niches, it’s part of my livelihood. I only write in detail about destinations I’ve actually been to in order to create quality, authentic content. So this kind of research is necessary to withstand my business.
.
Yes I love a good getaway. But while I’m here I’m also taking thousands of pics, videos + notes so I can create helpful travel guides when I get back.😅
.
At any point in time you can get inspired + check out the guides on my blog from destinations around the world! (You know where to find the link😉)

Gonna have this song stuck in my head all week!
.
My husband + I arrived on this pretty little island yesterday + have not done much but soak up sun + ocean waves.
.
Pro tip: when booking a vacation rental, make sure they have beach chairs + a cooler. It’s a game changer if you’re not staying at a hotel with all the extra (often pricey) amenities. It’s so nice to have those little luxuries included at an affordable rental!
.
We packed a cooler + hung out under this hut for hours today. Tomorrow we’ll explore more of this beautiful island...stay tuned to stories!

Walking Kona today reminded me of hiking Glacier N Walking Kona today reminded me of hiking Glacier National Park last summer 🥶
.
The middle of July on the Hidden Lake Trail is cold, but the movement + sunshine helps to warm you up.☀️
.
{Save this post if Glacier NP is on your bucket list!}
This hike is one of the most popular in the park + it was also more challenging than many others. That’s due to the slick, slushy snow plus steep incline at times.
.
You start at around 7000 in elevation + gain another 1400 so stretch those hamstrings before you start! It’s about 2.6 miles round trip to the overlook, double that if you go all the way to the lake.
.
Much of last year the trail beyond the overlook (2nd pic) was closed due to high bear activity. Let’s hope those bears find a new favorite spot in future years! 🐻 The lake looks beautiful + I’d love to hike all the way there next time.
.
Good hiking boots are a must for this hike, if you have trekking poles those prevent falling on the snow too. But don’t be too concerned, my young 4 + 7-year olds handled the hike just fine!👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
.
We loved hiking through the clouds + seeing a ton of mountains goats. Glacier was one of the top 5 destinations I’ve ever been to...I’d highly recommend regardless if you’re a hiker or not!🏔
.
So...is @glaciernps on your list? Got any ?’s for me?

Good news-Kauai reopened for travel this week!🥳 Good news-Kauai reopened for travel this week!🥳
Well, mostly. Hawaii has a pre-travel testing program which requires you to have a negative test or quarantine on arrival. But Kauai has extremely limited resources, so it has an extra layer of protection. 🏝
In December, they saw cases rising + had to opt-out of the travel program. Well, it’s under control again so they’ve re-opened, with a 3-day hold.
.
So it goes like this:
1️⃣get a test within 72 hours of arrival through their partners
2️⃣arrive with a negative test, go to a hotel bubble
3️⃣at the resort, you stay put for 3 days, using beach access, amenities, etc.
4️⃣take a 2nd test to make sure you didn’t pick it up somewhere between
5️⃣rapid results come back + you’re cleared to enjoy the rest of your vacation
.
Guysssss! This is my favorite place on earth. It’s truly magical.✨ We snuck in the day they re-opened in 2020 + got to enjoy this paradise!
.
If you wanna go, be ultra cautious the 2 weeks leading up to your vacation (we quarantined). Be sure to get that negative documentation BEFORE you jump on that flight. ✈️They had to shut down bc too many people jumped on the plane without results, ended up positive + maybe even spread it in the meantime.
.
Once you’re there, mask up + be respectful of the island. It’s a sacred spot so soak in all those good vibes + spread only aloha...not germs!🌺
.
The other major Hawaiian islands are open as of now for tourism without the extra 3 days. Be sure to check with the state before booking anything...as we all know the situation changes often!
.
Now, is Kauai on your #travelbucketlist or have you been?
.
1️⃣Poipu, Kauai
2️⃣Flying through a rainbow via helicopter
3️⃣Waimea Canyon
4️⃣ Hanakapiai Beach, Kalalau Trail
5️⃣Na Pali Coast from the air
6️⃣Mahaulepu Trail near Shipwreck Beach
.
.

I remember staring up at this ceiling - the US Cap I remember staring up at this ceiling - the US Capitol Building rotunda - in awe. Like I knew what happened within those walls was powerful. That was 20 years ago - the last time I was in Washington DC. (Yes, this is a photo of a photo...nothing was digital then!)
.
I remember touring the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian, Capitol Building - the list goes on. I took a photo of the "I hate war" blocks at FDR's Memorial.
.
I'm an eternal optimist - ALWAYS looking for the positive + the possibilities, instead of focusing on the negative, what's going wrong...what's broken. So, FDR, I too hate war. Right now I feel like our country is so divided + it feels like a new kind of war.
.
Honestly, it makes me want to trade out my passport for a new one. 💔
.
But I'm brought back to the reason why I fell in love with traveling. Sure, it's looking at beautiful sights, finding hidden gems + sitting on beaches watching the waves crash.
.
More than that though, I travel for understanding, for culture + for perspective.
.
I love learning about what makes people different + what makes us the same. I learned at an early age different is not wrong - it's just different. I believe acceptance + love (instead of hate + judgement) are so critical in making this world a place we all enjoy.
.
What the men + women did to the Capitol Building + our democracy yesterday was wrong beyond words. The actions of some - inaction of others - is truly heartbreaking. As uncomfortable as it is, we all need to stand up for what we believe is right. While I feel these next 13 days can’t come soon enough, I know that our country needs more healing + unity than just a shift in presidency.
.
I’ll continue to do the work in my own life to stand up for what’s right, so that my kids grow up in a world that’s better than it is today. I encourage you to use your voice + money for good, too.
.
Much love to you all 💙
.
