Walking Kona today reminded me of hiking Glacier N Walking Kona today reminded me of hiking Glacier National Park last summer 🥶
.
The middle of July on the Hidden Lake Trail is cold, but the movement + sunshine helps to warm you up.☀️
.
{Save this post if Glacier NP is on your bucket list!}
This hike is one of the most popular in the park + it was also more challenging than many others. That’s due to the slick, slushy snow plus steep incline at times.
.
You start at around 7000 in elevation + gain another 1400 so stretch those hamstrings before you start! It’s about 2.6 miles round trip to the overlook, double that if you go all the way to the lake.
.
Much of last year the trail beyond the overlook (2nd pic) was closed due to high bear activity. Let’s hope those bears find a new favorite spot in future years! 🐻 The lake looks beautiful + I’d love to hike all the way there next time.
.
Good hiking boots are a must for this hike, if you have trekking poles those prevent falling on the snow too. But don’t be too concerned, my young 4 + 7-year olds handled the hike just fine!👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
.
We loved hiking through the clouds + seeing a ton of mountains goats. Glacier was one of the top 5 destinations I’ve ever been to...I’d highly recommend regardless if you’re a hiker or not!🏔
.
So...is @glaciernps on your list? Got any ?’s for me?

Good news-Kauai reopened for travel this week!🥳 Good news-Kauai reopened for travel this week!🥳
Well, mostly. Hawaii has a pre-travel testing program which requires you to have a negative test or quarantine on arrival. But Kauai has extremely limited resources, so it has an extra layer of protection. 🏝
In December, they saw cases rising + had to opt-out of the travel program. Well, it’s under control again so they’ve re-opened, with a 3-day hold.
.
So it goes like this:
1️⃣get a test within 72 hours of arrival through their partners
2️⃣arrive with a negative test, go to a hotel bubble
3️⃣at the resort, you stay put for 3 days, using beach access, amenities, etc.
4️⃣take a 2nd test to make sure you didn’t pick it up somewhere between
5️⃣rapid results come back + you’re cleared to enjoy the rest of your vacation
.
Guysssss! This is my favorite place on earth. It’s truly magical.✨ We snuck in the day they re-opened in 2020 + got to enjoy this paradise!
.
If you wanna go, be ultra cautious the 2 weeks leading up to your vacation (we quarantined). Be sure to get that negative documentation BEFORE you jump on that flight. ✈️They had to shut down bc too many people jumped on the plane without results, ended up positive + maybe even spread it in the meantime.
.
Once you’re there, mask up + be respectful of the island. It’s a sacred spot so soak in all those good vibes + spread only aloha...not germs!🌺
.
The other major Hawaiian islands are open as of now for tourism without the extra 3 days. Be sure to check with the state before booking anything...as we all know the situation changes often!
.
Now, is Kauai on your #travelbucketlist or have you been?
.
1️⃣Poipu, Kauai
2️⃣Flying through a rainbow via helicopter
3️⃣Waimea Canyon
4️⃣ Hanakapiai Beach, Kalalau Trail
5️⃣Na Pali Coast from the air
6️⃣Mahaulepu Trail near Shipwreck Beach

I remember staring up at this ceiling - the US Cap I remember staring up at this ceiling - the US Capitol Building rotunda - in awe. Like I knew what happened within those walls was powerful. That was 20 years ago - the last time I was in Washington DC. (Yes, this is a photo of a photo...nothing was digital then!)
.
I remember touring the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian, Capitol Building - the list goes on. I took a photo of the "I hate war" blocks at FDR's Memorial.
.
I'm an eternal optimist - ALWAYS looking for the positive + the possibilities, instead of focusing on the negative, what's going wrong...what's broken. So, FDR, I too hate war. Right now I feel like our country is so divided + it feels like a new kind of war.
.
Honestly, it makes me want to trade out my passport for a new one. 💔
.
But I'm brought back to the reason why I fell in love with traveling. Sure, it's looking at beautiful sights, finding hidden gems + sitting on beaches watching the waves crash.
.
More than that though, I travel for understanding, for culture + for perspective.
.
I love learning about what makes people different + what makes us the same. I learned at an early age different is not wrong - it's just different. I believe acceptance + love (instead of hate + judgement) are so critical in making this world a place we all enjoy.
.
What the men + women did to the Capitol Building + our democracy yesterday was wrong beyond words. The actions of some - inaction of others - is truly heartbreaking. As uncomfortable as it is, we all need to stand up for what we believe is right. While I feel these next 13 days can’t come soon enough, I know that our country needs more healing + unity than just a shift in presidency.
.
I’ll continue to do the work in my own life to stand up for what’s right, so that my kids grow up in a world that’s better than it is today. I encourage you to use your voice + money for good, too.
.
Much love to you all 💙

Pure joy✨ It’s what I felt the day I was chasi Pure joy✨
It’s what I felt the day I was chasing my husband around on the beach, taking such an unflattering photo.🤷🏻‍♀️
.
It’s also what I felt last night when I completed 366 workouts in 366 days.💪🏻
I started 2020 off with a challenge of working out 100 times in 100 days, which morphed into 366 in 366. I can honestly say I was thrown a big curveball in November with a back injury...working out 3x a day the last 2 1/2 weeks is not necessarily my idea of fun. 😅
Nevertheless, I didn’t give up + I completed the challenge anyway.
.
It’s New Years + the world is focusing on new goals right now. I love the momentum of a new year, but believe any self improvement is worthy of an undertaking anytime, not only because it’s January 1st.💥
.
But since we’re here, what’s a goal you’re going to be focusing on? I’d love to cheer you on💯

Canyonlands National Park will truly blow your min Canyonlands National Park will truly blow your mind. 🤯 The hiking is simply phenomenal when every path leads to incredible views!
.
During my #solotravels to Moab, I split my time between Arches + Canyonlands + dang I’m so glad I made time for both!
.
I actually preferred the hiking in @canyonlandsnps as the views we so spectacular! 😳
.
If you’re looking for a hiking adventure, SAVE THIS POST for a future trip!
.
Here are 5 tips to make your trip to Canyonlands NP go smoothly:
1️⃣ Take lots of water: no matter when you’re hiking, but especially in summer! You can refill at the visitor’s center spring, summer + fall.
2️⃣ Follow the cairns as you hike. These are the stacked rocks that mark the trail when it’s difficult to see.
3️⃣ There’s no food available in the park, so bring plenty of fuel for all your hiking. A packed lunch in a cooler in the car is perfect for a rest between hiking.
4️⃣ If you’re visiting in the summer, avoid hiking during the hottest part of the day (12-4pm).
5️⃣ If you’re hiking in the winter, be sure to ask a ranger at the visitor center which hikes are open/safe due to snow.
.
So, is Canyonlands on your bucket list?

Badlands National Park is surreal + truly feels like a different planet. 👽
.
Incredible rock spires jut up into the sky with jagged cliffs around every turn.
.
Tucked away in the southwest corner of South Dakota, @badlandsnps is a pleasant surprise in the Midwest. It’s one of the most impressive + underrated USA National Parks – in my opinion!
.
So, is Badlands on your bucket list? Or have you been already?
.

Gah! Who’s missing a beach right about now? 🙋 Gah! Who’s missing a beach right about now? 🙋🏻‍♀️
.
The dormant scenery in the Midwest has me feeling bleh. 🥱 I’m assuming that’s most of the country though!
.
Kinda feeling like I need to pick up winter hiking or snowshoeing. Got any winter suggestions?
.
In the meantime, I’ll reminisce about this dreamy spot in #belize from last year.🌴
